Sangan Hotel
Sangan is a small city located in the North-East of Iran. Recently due to the discovery of an iron mine, its local commerce which was originally based on agriculture, product exchange and handicrafts, mostly shifted towards the development of steel factories. Even though these developments have had a positive impact on this town, still, it suffers from a lack of residential and hospitality functions for the mounting number of visitors. The project brief included designing a 20-story tower structure in a 50,000 m2 plot between Sangan and the industrial zone.
The design challenge was to solve the contradiction between the high-rise structure proposed and the existing low rise urban fabric of Sangan. Furthermore, a destination hotel would negatively impact the locals’ vulnerable source of income and this would result in a push-back as well. Inside the volume, is organized by a repetition of void spaces at different scales; a central yard acts like an oasis and performs as a public space for the hotel. The complex is surrounded by an interactive outdoor space which is organized and protected by a perforated shelter that has the dynamic form of traditional primitive tent structures, made of local mat suitable for temporary local markets, certain businesses and activities. Using this typology as a reference, provided us with the contextual tools to lower the hotel tower and increase the footprint of the building to be more familiar and interactive with local people.

Ladies and Gentleman,
my name is Zahel, and I am an architecture student currently pursuing my master’s degree in Germany with Afghan origins. Architecture has been my passion for as long as I can remember, and it has always been my dream to bring this passion to life by working on projects that connect architectural design with the rich cultural heritage of Persia and Central Asia.
I recently came across your outstanding project, and I am deeply inspired by how it combines beauty and functionality. It closely aligns with my own vision of creating meaningful, culturally resonant architecture, and I am interested in developing something similar in a unique context. If possible, I would be incredibly grateful if you could share some details or plans about the project—I would love to learn more about the approach and design principles involved.
Additionally, I am very interested in exploring job opportunities at your firm, particularly for someone with a master’s degree in architecture. I believe my background, coupled with my strong interest in Persian-inspired architectural design, would allow me to make valuable contributions to your team. Please let me know if there are any current openings or potential future opportunities for someone with my qualifications.
Thank you very much for considering my inquiry. I look forward to the possibility of joining your team and contributing to your inspiring work.
Warm regards,
Zahel Daniel Faqiri
